Spring has sprung and birthdays, baby showers, and family gatherings are bursting onto our calendars. With the help of Nestle Toll House DelightFulls, we’ve created a salty, yet sweet, way to kick off the season. Each cupcake is bursting with flavor and a hidden surprise within, inspired by Nestle Toll House DelightFulls and all of their bite-sized yummy goodness.
The recipe is really simple! Gather a box of cake mix and its directed ingredients, a jar or two of chocolate frosting, Nestle Toll House DelightFulls with Caramel Filling, roasted macadamia nuts, and sea salt.
Nestle Toll House DelightFulls with Caramel Filling are slightly larger than the usual Toll House morsel, but are filled with bold flavors, perfect for a variety of recipes, trail mix, or just as a snack. I could not stop “sampling” them throughout the baking process! Other flavors include Peanut Butter, Mint, or Cherry. I can already imagine using the peanut butter variety on some ice cream, the mint to create a girl’s troop inspired mint-chocolate chip cookie, and follow those up with a not-your-grandmother’s cherry cordial pie.
Prepare the cake mix and spoon about 3 tablespoons per cupcake baking cup. The mix we used claimed to make 24 cupcakes, but we ended up with about 16 total. Check the doneness with a toothpick, even if they look fully baked. Your toothpick should come out clean or with only tiny bits of cake attached.
While the cupcakes are baking, measure 3/4 cup of Nestle Toll House DelightFulls with Caramel Filling in a small bowl and microwave for 45 seconds. Add 1/4 cup chopped or ground macadamia nuts and mix into a paste. This will become the stuffing for your cupcakes.
It’s quick to grind the macadamia nuts lightly in a bullet-style blender or chop for a slight crunch in the center of your cupcakes. Add more Toll House filled morsels or frosting to the mix if you prefer the center to be more creamy.
When your cupcakes have cooled, use a melon baller or a knife to cut out a space for your DelightFulls caramel-nut filling. Stuff each cupcake with a grape-sized (2 to 3 teaspoons) ball of filling, then frost.
Sprinkle macadamia bits and crushed sea salt to add a finishing touch and additional flavor layers.
Stop drooling and head over to your local market for ingredients or just to experience the hidden burst of flavor inside any of the four Nestle Toll House DelightFulls varieties!
