Life happens. You may covet that perfect attendance certificate for your child, but the reality is that some time off is warranted. Kids get sick. Family emergencies occur without warning. Doctors can’t always work around your schedule.
But to ensure that your child is learning and keeping up with the class, it’s vital that your child to attend school every day. Work can often be made up, but there’s usually no way to make up class lectures or discussions. Tests, quizzes, and homework function as reinforcements of the classroom learning—not replacements.
Reevaluate the family schedule. Can you reschedule important appointments? Do you have to leave for that long weekend before school gets out? Can you reschedule your family trip so that it coincides with a school vacation? If you want your child to succeed, you need to make sure he or she is in school to do so.
Reschedule appointments or events that take your child out of school and away from teacher explanation and classroom discussion.
