Overcome holiday stress and present a home you can be proud of with our pre-holiday cleaning checklist!

Win a BISSELL this Holiday

The holidays roll in quickly each year and leave everyone rushing to be prepared at the last minute. Whether you are hosting friends or family this year, having your house in top-notch condition before they arrive is very important.

Even though you love your family and are glad they are visiting, it can be stressful sometimes. Great Aunt Ethel or Cousin Tina may be the type that pick apart your home and always criticize your choices of decor. This year, overcome the stress and present a home you can be proud of. These Pre-Holiday Cleaning Chores will get your home in order just in time for their arrival!

Wipe Down Walls & Ceilings: You can hide a lot of clutter, but it’s hard to disguise the cobwebs and dust. This is one time per year that you want to grab those dusters and cloths to tackle the corners, ceiling fans and of course the walls. Spritz some lemon or peppermint essential oil on your cleaning cloth and you’ll freshen the room too!

Scotchgard the Carpets: Let’s face it, family and friends are loved, but not always careful. A few too many people in one house, or a few too many glasses of wine and you suddenly have a few holiday spills that stain your carpet and won’t go away. Before company arrives use the BISSELL ProHeat 2X® Premier 47A23 Upright Deep Cleaner with carpet cleaning formula that includes Scotchgard Protector. Scotchgard Protector works by placing a barrier on the surface of fibers to protect against future stains. Even if your carpets weren’t originally treated with Scotchgard, you can help build in some protection using BISSELL deep cleaning formulas with Scotchgard Protector.

Burn Holiday Candles: Freshen the air in your home with a few strategically placed holiday scented candles like apple pie, mulberry, vanilla, pine, and mint scents.

Fresh Linens on Guest Beds: Even if nobody has slept in the guest bed since last holiday season, putting freshly laundered linens on the bed will brighten the room and make your guests feel welcome. Use a lightly scented laundry fabric softener to freshen and make them softer.

Hide Clutter in Decorative Storage: Grab a few new shelves to hang for books and magazines or invest in some decorative storage ottomans that double as extra seating. Holiday prep can include hiding some of your clutter in decorative storage and your guests won’t be the wiser.

This year make your holiday visitors feel welcome while brightening, organizing, and freshening your home (with protection from holiday spills).

  • Lighting holiday scented candles is always one of the first things I do when cleaning. It really puts me in a festive mood, and the house smells wonderful!

  • Dangerous Cupcake

Great tips to get us motivated! I hate cleaning but I do it daily or it just too easily gets so bad that you don’t want to tackle it at all. I’m all for doing it in advance so you can enjoy your guests and fun without worry!

  • shopwithmemamakim

These are all wonderful tips! I always try to make sure I do most of these as I hate having to do deep cleaning after the holidays!

  • I always start wiping down the walls a few days before, it takes so long to do. I need to get some more decorative storage for my house to hide clutter.

  • Kimberly Grabinski

These are great tips. I want to have all this down well before Christmas. I also would love to win that machine.

  • Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell

Luckily I’m traveling for the upcoming holidays. Am I subconsciously avoiding cleaning? Maybe!

  • Lee Allport

I like the tip about using some peppermint oil to freshen a room! I would not have thought of that and instead spray down the room with Oust or Febreeze!

  • Leah

I like the tip about using peppermint oil. I actually made my own carpet deodorizer and I put peppermint essential oil in it. Not only does the room smell great, but ants, spiders, etc do not like peppermint so it helps to repel those nasty things in the winter too!!

  • Digna Dreibelbis

Great tips. Anything to make things less stressful around the holidays is a good idea. Thank you for sharing!

  • Michelle

I also didn’t think about using oils when wiping down walls, etc. Great tips! I’ve been doing a little at a time!

  • Jesica H

It would make my life easier because the kids are constantly spilling things! I would love the spot cleaner.

  • fabgrandma

The BISSELL ProHeat 2X® Premier 47A23 Upright Deep Cleaning Machine with Scotchgard Protector Carpet Cleaning Solution would make my life easier because I could stop worrying about little people staining carpets with their spills

  • Chrysa Duran

These are some great tips. It would be even easier to clean with this Bissel – especially with that spot cleaner!

  • I think that Bissel would make things a ton easier. With 4 kids and a cat we need all the help we can get!

  • Valerie Remy-Milora

Oh a Bissel Upright Cleaner would make my life sooo much easier! We live in the hills on an acre of land but have carpets throughout the entire house. And we have a few pets a dog, 2 cats and a bird. All their formulas sound great and I love that they are EPA certified and approved. I’d get deep cleaning, pet formula and the allergen formula.

  • I could definitely use a Bissel cleaner to help get things in shape around here. It gets a little crazy, and messy, with 3 kids and a cat and a dog.

  • Avry Byington

I have a Bissel carpet shampooer and I LOVE IT! It has gotten used quite a bit in my home. 🙂

  • Audrey Watters Holden

I’m all about using decorative ottomans and baskets in order to creatively hide clutter. *lol* And I can definitely use a Bissel cleaner right now. With snow season just setting in, it’s really hard on our carpets!
